Dutch Schapendoes

Temperament
Intelligent, Watchful, Lively, Friendly
[3]Background and human relationship
A longhaired herding dog of Dutch heathlands. Preservation gathered momentum around the Second World War, followed by a breed club in 1947, a standard in 1954 and full Dutch recognition in 1971.
[1]Build and coat
Long hair covers a light build with easy springing movement. Endurance, speed and jumping ability serve herding. Build and gait distinguish it from other shaggy herders such as Polish Lowland and Old English Sheepdogs.
[1]Colour and comparisons
JKC allows all colours, with blue-grey to black preferred. Shade and shadows created by long hair are separate observations. Shared colour does not make different longhaired herding breeds equivalent.
