[3]A relatively recent German breed
The FCI standard says Ilse Schleifenbaum first bred the dog near the Krom Fohr district by Siegen and names the Wire-haired Fox Terrier and Grand Griffon Vendéen among its ancestors. It has been recognised internationally since 1955.
[1]Two coat types with different lengths
The FCI standard recognizes rough and smooth coat types. The smooth type has no beard; hair at the withers and back is no longer than 7 cm and is about 3 cm on the sides. It lies close to the body but is longer on the ears, underside of the neck, chest and tail, with feathering on the rear of the forelegs and upper thighs also desirable.
[1]Patches on white and a facial blaze
The body has a white ground with light-to-dark brown patches or a saddle marking. Brown markings on the cheeks, above the eyes and on the ears are divided as symmetrically as possible by a white blaze. The standard allows the blaze to reach the forehead or the nape without interruption.
