Atlas Mountain Dog (Aidi)

Temperament
Faithful, Affectionate, Docile, Alert
[3]A guardian from the Atlas Mountains
The UKC standard describes a dog long associated with the mountains and plateaus of North Africa and used by semi-nomadic communities as a guard dog in Morocco. It explicitly distinguishes the Aidi from a traditional flock-herding dog.
[1]Powerful yet sinewy in build
The UKC standard gives a body-length-to-height ratio of 10:9, with a deep chest reaching at least to the elbows and a broad, muscular back. The build is powerful yet sinewy rather than cumbersome, consistent with a guardian working in mountainous terrain.
[1]A thick coat for harsh conditions
Except on the face and ears, the coat is thick and rather harsh; males may show a distinct mane, with longer hair on the hindquarters and tail. The UKC standard allows black, fawn from pale sand to deep red, and brown from beige to deep dark brown, with white spotting permitted on any of these colors.
