Developed from Kirlee, a curly-coated male found in Devon in 1959, it proved distinct from the Cornish Rex.

Large eyes, low-set ears, prominent cheekbones and a soft, wavy coat are characteristic. The small-to-medium body is muscular.

Whiskers and eyebrows may curl and break, appearing short. Curl alone does not make it identical to other Rex breeds.
