The Indian hedgehog lives in dry regions and needs some plant cover for shelter and nest material.
It has a pointed nose, short legs and large, slightly pointed ears. A broad spineless patch on the forehead, a dark facial mask and spines on the back and sides are distinctive.
It needs plant cover for prey and nest lining. In Pakistan it is reported from thorn forest and irrigated farmland as well as dry country, and it is not associated with the most barren desert.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
