Endemic to Taiwan, this scimitar babbler has olive-brown upperparts, rufous-brown face and flanks, and white throat and belly. Dark marks on the upper breast help distinguish it.
The crown and upperparts are olive brown, while the face and flanks are rufous brown. The throat and belly are white with dark spots or streaks on the upper breast; the eyes are yellow and the gray bill is curved.
It uses undergrowth in open forest, forest edges, scrub-jungle, secondary growth, and grass-jungle. It feeds singly or in pairs near the ground on insects and vegetable matter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
