This mouse is known from a small area of the north-central Peruvian Andes. Capture records come from upper montane elfin forest and from nearby rocky ground and grassland.
The ears are large, 28–33 mm long. The tail is longer than the head and body, with white hairs and scales over about one-third to two-fifths of its tip.
It occurs in upper montane elfin forest. In the Pampa del Cuy Valley, specimens were caught in rocky ground and grassland near fragmented forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
