This small antwren lives in coastal forest in southeastern Brazil. Males and females have different plumage.
Males are slaty black with a rufous-chestnut back; females are olive-brown with buffy underparts.
It uses the understorey of coastal restinga woodland and young secondary growth. The assessment also records it in regenerating vegetation on disturbed ground and abandoned banana plantations.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
