This large shrew occurs in West Africa and was newly recorded in Sierra Leone.
It is a large species; the survey assigned eight specimens using body and cranial features.
Swampy savanna is among its previously reported habitats, while the Sierra Leone survey recorded it in grassland, swamp, and young riverine forest. Its ecology remains poorly known.
