This small mouse is known from high grasslands in the Caparaó mountains. Some individuals have a dark mark at the snout, but the pattern varies.
A narrow dark band running from the snout toward the eyes was reported in many males and a few females. In specimens examined by the authors, dark hairs could be limited to the snout, and a similar patch also occurs in a close relative.
The paper describes the species as restricted to grass-dominated campos de altitude at 1,800–2,890 m. It also says that little is known about its ecology and evolution.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
