The Bougainville Island Solomys is a large rodent known from Bougainville and Choiseul in the Solomon Islands. The original description reports coarse fur from a Bougainville specimen.
The original Bougainville specimen was robust, with coarse yellowish-brown fur mixed with long black hairs. Its underside was lighter, and the tail was slightly shorter than the head and body together.
An Australian Museum field account reports one animal caught during a canopy expedition. This single capture does not establish that all individuals live in trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
