Moojen's spiny-rat is recorded from the southern Espinhaço massif in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Specimen labels and a study at Serra do Caraça point to upper forest formations in the mountains.
It is medium-sized relative to other Trinomys. The back and sides are orange-brown, with orange tones on the neck and shoulders and long, narrow, dark-tipped stiff hairs on the back.
Specimen labels point to upper forest formations. One Serra do Caraça study captured 29 individuals and recorded 49 recaptures.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
