The Blue-throated Macaw is a large parrot of Bolivia's Beni region, with a blue throat and golden-yellow underparts.
Its back and wings are bright blue, its belly is golden yellow, and a blue band crosses the throat.
Blue-throated Macaws occupy a limited Bolivian range and nest in tree cavities. Habitat loss and trapping remove nest sites; fire, heavy rain and other animals threaten those remaining.
In Gran Mojos, the programme reported 100 boxes monitored and 17 chicks fledged from eight active nests during 2025–2026.
Teams and trained local staff continue tracking after fledging. Community employment links nest protection with local participation.
IUCN Red List (conservation organisation account) · Critically Endangered · Global
Trapping, habitat loss, fire, predation and disease are threats. Local conservation protects nests and boxes, provides chick support and monitors fledglings with communities.
