A large bird that walks on long legs along the forest floor, it lives in vocal groups and has regionally variable wing color.
It has a small head, long legs, and an almost absent tail. Most of its body is black; wings tend to be green in western populations and black in eastern ones.
It lives in groups in humid forest and may run away when discovered. It sometimes attends moving ant swarms.
