The Hainan Blue Flycatcher occurs from southern China through mainland Southeast Asia. In Hong Kong, mature forest is its main recorded breeding habitat.
Typical males recorded in Hong Kong are bright blue above, on the throat, and across the upper breast, with a grayish-white lower breast and belly. Females have pale brown upperparts, a grayer head, a pale orange throat and breast, and an off-white belly.
In Hong Kong, breeding birds are recorded in mature forest with tall, relatively open trees above a shrub-rich understory. Outside the breeding season, observations also come from park trees, wetlands, and coastal woodland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
