An adult male has an orange-brown head, a yellow mantle cape, an iridescent green breast shield, blue legs, and long central tail feathers. The female is dull olive-brown to reddish brown, with dark bars below.
It eats fruit and small animals, especially insects and spiders. A male clears and defends a ground display court and moves his plumes and tail; the female alone builds and attends the nest.
