The Indomalayan pencil-tailed tree mouse is a small arboreal rodent of Asian forests. It uses trees and bamboo, and the long tail ends in a tuft of hair.
The long tail has a well-defined tuft at its tip. Malaysian specimens have short, soft reddish-brown fur and an orange-red flank stripe; northern specimens are often paler and usually lack the flank stripe.
It is mainly arboreal but also descends to the ground. In forests it is most common where bamboo is abundant; by day it nests in tree hollows or the internodes of large bamboo, lining the nest with leaves.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
