This bird-of-paradise lives in the mountains of western New Guinea. It has black plumage, colorful facial wattles, and a diet of fruit.
Adult males and females look alike and are black. A yellow to greenish-yellow wattle sits above the bill, with blue and red wattles at the base of the lower bill.
In observations published in 1875, Beccari reported it feeding on small, fleshy Urtica fruits and often perching atop dead trees without leaves or branches. On 5 July 2010, one adult female was recorded sitting on a nest in the Arfak Mountains.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
