The Forest Elaenia is widespread in the Amazon region. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of humid forest and sometimes joins mixed-species flocks.
The upperparts are yellowish olive, with a grey crown, a pale supercilium and a partly concealed pale-yellow crown patch. The olive breast has diffuse yellow streaks that grade into the yellow underparts. The bill is black.
