A 2024 study examined male Chinese Blackbirds in Nanjing and analyzed songs that mimicked cuckoo calls. The study population belonged to the urban subspecies T. m. mandarinus in eastern China.
The paper describes the Chinese Blackbird as a large, all-black thrush with a bill ranging from orange to bright yellow.
Males of the Nanjing study subspecies held territories and were largely solitary during breeding. Their large song repertoires included mimetic units such as copied cuckoo calls.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
