The ribboned rope squirrel is a small squirrel with black stripes along its back and flanks. It is active by day and searches on the ground and in low vegetation for fruits, seeds, and insects.
Four black stripes run along each flank of its small brown body. The belly is white to buff, and its long, bushy tail curls over its back when it rests.
It is diurnal and often forages on the ground or in vegetation below 5 m. It eats fruits and seeds as well as arthropods such as termites and ants, and builds nests from leaves.
