A rodent from rocky scrubland in Chile. Its diet and activity time vary with season and locality in the records.
Its soft coat is grey-brown above and paler underneath. The assessment describes young animals as brown and adults as grey, with coat length and colour also differing between subspecies.
It is mainly nocturnal and sometimes active at twilight. It eats plants, and records from central Chile describe seasonal changes in its food.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
