The Western Tinkerbird is a small African barbet recorded in several separated mountain regions. Its black back is marked by a broad yellow stripe running from crown to rump.
About 10 cm long, it is mainly black above, with a broad yellow stripe from crown to rump. Yellow edging and a wing bar mark the wings; a white moustache stripe crosses the face, and the underparts are grey-olive.
It lives in montane forest and along forest edges. The cited account documents separated mountain populations but does not describe feeding or breeding behavior.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
