The Sao Francisco Black Tyrant is recorded in Brazil's dry-forest region. A survey in central Minas Gerais found it most often in dry forest and along its edges.
Adult males are glossy black, with a white band at the base of the outer flight feathers that is visible in flight. Females are gray-brown, with a rufous-buff rump and pale streaks below.
In the Curral de Pedras survey in central Minas Gerais, most habitat records were in dry forest or at its edges; some were in vegetation on limestone outcrops and in gallery forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
