The western harvest mouse is a small rodent of western North America, often recognized by a dark stripe along its back.
A dark stripe runs along its back, and its coat changes with the seasons. Summer fur is grayer, while winter fur is browner.
It is active at night and builds nests among grasses and low plants. It may collect and store seeds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
In this two-site study, the Western Harvest Mouse was one of the species that helped identify native shortgrass prairie.
