The Southern Martin moves seasonally across a broad part of South America. In Patagonia, Argentina, it is seen near water during the Southern Hemisphere spring and summer.
Its back is glossy and dark. Males are dark underneath, while females have a gray underside.
In Patagonia it catches flying insects and may skim the water surface to drink or bathe. It nests in cavities in cliffs or buildings.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
