The Atlantic bamboo rat is an arboreal rodent of bamboo patches in the Atlantic Forest. It grips bamboo with broad digits and feeds on bamboo leaves and stems.
The third and fourth digits of its forefeet are long and broad, with a gap between them. Together with flat nails, they help it grip bamboo culms.
It leaves its resting site near sunset and returns near sunrise, though it has also been seen feeding by day. It builds arboreal nests and eats bamboo shoots, stems, and leaves.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
