A herd-living hoofed mammal of the Americas, recognized by the pale band around its neck.
It has a stocky body, short legs, and a pale band across the front of the neck on its coarse gray coat. Individuals in deserts may be yellowish brown, while those in tropical areas tend to be darker.
It lives in herds and eats mostly plant material. Its food varies with habitat: it eats plenty of fruit in tropical forests and regularly uses cacti in deserts.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
