Hoffmann's Sulawesi rat occurs on Sulawesi. A survey in Lore Lindu National Park recorded it as a species associated with lower montane forest.
The original description gives a black back mixed with rich yellow-brown fur and a silvery-gray underside. The tail is shorter than the body, and the ears are small.
In the Lore Lindu National Park survey, it was among the most frequently captured rats and was associated with lower montane forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
