The plains pocket mouse is a small rodent of the North American Great Plains. It carries seeds in fur-lined cheek pouches and stores food in its burrow.
Its back is dark buff mixed with black hairs, while the underside is lighter. Fur-lined pouches on the outside of its cheeks carry food. Coat color varies geographically.
It is nocturnal and eats mostly seeds. It digs in sandy soil, plugs the burrow entrance while inside, and keeps food caches underground.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
