This small bird inhabits montane forest in the Albertine Rift. It has contrasting black-blue and white plumage and searches the lower forest for insects.
The upperparts are dark bluish black with a white wing stripe and white loral spot. The underparts are white with a glossy dark breast band and black chin spot; the tail has white edges. Males have yellow eyes, while females have sometimes been reported with orangey-red eyes.
It inhabits evergreen montane forest, especially bamboo and closed-canopy ridge forest, at 1,340–3,300 m. It forages in the lower forest, often 2–6 m above ground, catching insects with short sallies and gleaning foliage and twigs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
