Pocock's New Guinea Highland Rat is a small rat recorded in montane forests of New Guinea's central cordillera. HMW 2017 treats it separately from Rattus niobe but says its placement needs further study.
It is very small, with soft fur and no spines. The back is dark gray-brown, nearly black with rusty-tipped hairs; the underside is also dark gray-brown.
It is recorded in montane tropical forest. HMW 2017 lists montane tropical forests as its habitat.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
