A fish-eating bat of islands in the Gulf of California and the Baja California coast. It hunts close to the water surface.
It has large feet with long, laterally compressed claws, long legs and broad wings. These features help it take prey from the water surface.
It flies low over coastal lagoons and shallow water, catching fish and crustaceans.
Females give birth to one young in late May to early June after a gestation of about 55–65 days.
