The Paramo Seedeater occurs in the Andes and on tepuis in southern Venezuela. It searches near the ground in humid scrub near the tree line, often among Chusquea bamboo.
Males are dark slate gray, with a pale pointed bill and black forehead and lores. Females are dark brown with a grayish head; both sexes have chestnut feathers beneath the tail.
It eats seeds and insects, foraging near or on the ground in dense vegetation. A paper described two nests, one each in Colombia and Brazil, with two eggs in each.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
