This chinchilla rat was described from Argentina’s Famatina Range in 1920. The original specimens had gray backs and a whitish chest patch.
Thomas described the coat as generally ash gray, with a paler underside and white or pale drab hair tips. The throat was darker drab. A whitish chest-gland patch was present in all described specimens, male and female.
The 1920 description includes the collector’s observation that these animals lived beneath rocks and in their crevices.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
