The Princess Parrot occurs in central and western Australia. Males are notable for a blue crown and pink throat.
Males have a blue crown and blue-gray sides to the head, with pink on the chin and throat. Females have a gray-mauve crown and a shorter tail.
It is nomadic and moves through dry country in search of acacias, a favored food source. After breeding, it leaves a nesting area and may not return for years.
