The Hawaiian Duck is a brown-speckled native duck of Hawaiʻi. It forages in shallow freshwater wetlands; this description excludes birds hybridized with Mallards.
Adult males and females are speckled brown overall. Males have darker heads and necks; females are smaller and have paler bills and feet.
It searches shallow freshwater wetlands for snails, insect larvae, earthworms, and grass seeds. It is usually alone or in pairs, but may gather at food-rich places in winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
