The Green Rosella is the largest rosella. Its two described subspecies differ slightly in colour pattern, with yellow head and underparts, blue-violet cheeks, a red forehead band, and a green-and-black back among the notable features.
The Tasmanian nominate form has a yellow to golden head and underparts, a red forehead band, blue-violet cheek patches, and a green back scalloped with black. The King Island form has a dark green-and-black mottled back, blue cheeks, and blue edges to the wings and tail.
It feeds on seeds, berries, and leaf buds, as well as psyllids and insect larvae. It is often seen in groups of four or five; larger flocks may form after breeding.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
