The Falkland Islands nominate form is dark brown, with a paler throat finely speckled with buff. It has a pale line over the eye and a long, down-curved bill. The bill is dark throughout in this subspecies.
On rat-free Falkland islands it is common along rocky and sandy shores, where it takes small invertebrates among rotting kelp and tussac grass. Tame birds may follow people. It places a grass cup nest under dense vegetation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
