The Whiskered Myiobius ranges across northern and western South America. In the nominate subspecies described by the source, the back is olive green and the rump is yellow.
The nominate subspecies has an olive-green crown, nape, and back, a yellowish-white eye-ring, a greyish face, and a yellow rump. Its yellow crown patch is mostly hidden.
It occurs in the shady understory of humid terra firme and gallery forests, as well as second growth, often near streams; its main diet is arthropods. It sometimes fans its tail.
