The Okinawa Rail is a forest bird of northern Okinawa, with a striking red bill and legs.
Its body is dark, making the red bill and legs conspicuous. Like other rails, it spends time walking on the ground.
It lives in the forests of Yanbaru and searches for food while walking on the forest floor.
It feeds mainly on small animals such as insects, crustaceans and amphibians, and uses trees as roosts.
It breeds from April to July, nesting on the ground and laying 3–5 eggs per clutch.
The face is black with a white line behind the eye. White bars cross the black breast and belly, and the back is dark olive-brown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
