A small toucan relative with a black head and chest in males and chestnut-brown head and chest in females. It lives in humid South American forests, and detailed diet records are limited.
The male has a black head and chest, golden ear-coverts, and a yellow band between the head and green back. The female has a chestnut-brown head and chest; her yellow back band is faint or may be absent.
Its diet is poorly documented. It is thought to eat fruit and may also take small birds. During pair bonding, the male is reported to offer food to the female.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
