This ground squirrel occurs in southern and western Texas. Rows of square white spots mark its back, and its tail is bushy. It lives in grassland and brush and uses several burrows.
The upperparts are wood brown to buffy brown, usually with about nine rows of squarish white spots. The moderately bushy tail is about two-fifths of total length.
It inhabits grassy or brushy places and digs burrows, often in sandy or gravelly soil. An individual may use several burrows.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
