The Koklass Pheasant is a large forest bird with a silvery male and a streaked brown female.
Males have silvery plumage, a maroon breast stripe, a white neck patch, and a long crest. Females are streaky brown with a shorter crest.
Koklass Pheasants use mountain forests with an understory. In Pakistan’s Hazara region, most direct observations were in dense tree cover;calls and shed feathers also indicated their presence.
Fieldwork in 2020–2021 produced 59 occurrence records from 15 sites. Birds were seen directly at four sites, but feather and call evidence occurred at all 15.
The study related occurrence to slope, disturbance and tree and shrub frequency, and modelled suitable habitat.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
The Hazara study considers vegetation, terrain and human disturbance relevant to conservation. Its authors recommend effective legal protection and public awareness. Forest condition includes understory shrubs as well as trees.
