This pitta is endemic to Borneo. Adult males show a yellow eyebrow, blue rump and tail, and a blue belly patch. It is now treated separately from related forms once grouped with it.
Adult males have a broad yellow eyebrow on a black head, chestnut upperparts, a spotted wing bar, and a blue rump and tail. The throat grades from white to yellow; the belly has dark bars and a large blue patch. Females are duller and lack blue on the underparts.
It uses lowland and montane forest and forages on the ground for insects, snails, and earthworms; it also takes berries.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
