This hare occurs in mountainous parts of South Africa and Lesotho. Its coat is thick and dense, brown above and pale rufous below; the feet and tail are darker red, while the head is grey-brown with grey-white cheeks.
The pelage is thick, dense and woolly. The back is grizzled brown, the sides lighter, the limbs bright rufous, and the underside pale to whitish rufous. Its head is grey-brown with grey-white cheeks.
The assessment records it mostly on rocky high ground along the South African Drakensberg escarpment. Its higher-elevation preference relative to other red rock hares is partly based on unpublished data.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
