This bulbul lives in Asian forests. A Bangladesh account reports it in pairs or mixed flocks, feeding on nectar, fruit, and insects. The museum specimen is one male of a Laos subspecies.
In one adult male specimen from Laos, identified as the subspecies Hemixos flavala bourdellei, the iris is reddish-brown and the bill and legs are black.
In Bangladesh it is seen in pairs or mixed flocks in mixed evergreen forest, forest edges, and secondary growth. It is active by day and feeds on nectar, fruit, and insects.
