The Caucasian birch mouse is a small rodent recorded in grasslands of the western Great Caucasus. Its back lacks a dark stripe, and field records include places with tall, dense vegetation.
Its back is uniformly colored and lacks a dark midline stripe. The original description distinguished it from S. concolor by brighter color and shorter ears.
In a western Caucasus survey, it was recorded frequently in sites with tall, dense plants. The study also reported more records in grasslands with little grazing or mowing.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
