A rat known from Mindanao in the Philippines. Its coat includes spiny-tipped awn hairs reported as unique among members of its close group.
The dorsal coat has a layer of spiny awn hairs. A 2022 comparative study reports this feature only in this species among its close group.
Natural-history records are sparse. A survey of Mt. Kitanglad on Mindanao lacked habitat and elevation data for records of this species; a lowland-forest association was presented by the authors as a hypothesis.
The specimen used in the comparison had ears 20 mm long.
The ventral fur is pale grayish.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
