This sunbird lives in Philippine forest and feeds mainly on nectar. A 2006 preliminary taxonomic review recorded geographic differences in plumage among populations.
The review described Luzon birds as having a larger bill, orange throat, dull-yellow belly, and green upper back. Birds from Guimaras, Panay, and Negros were described with a smaller bill, dull-orange throat, bright-yellow belly, and maroon upper back.
It is associated with forest and is mainly nectarivorous. The species account records calls from Luzon and summarizes it as resident.
